Why Use a Portable See-Through Hunting Ground Blind?

Portable hunting blinds allow you to blend in with your environment

If you are a real hunter, you need to UNDERSTAND your PREY! Read that again, it’s very important. Just because we are supremely intelligent and we have a little something called weapons, it’s time to dive back into our ancient animal instincts. The absolute most basic principle of hunting is getting close enough to your prey to get a good and clean kill shot. That means you either pursue them, or luring them in – and luring in is infinitely more common. So now you need to CONCEAL yourself and get close, really close! This is where see thru blinds come into play, offering concealment without compromising visibility.

Improving Your Deer Hunt with a TideWe FlipGuard 270 See-Through Hunting Blind

Deer Hunting

Let’s cover deer first. Can deer see you in a ground blind? Sight is very important when hunting deer, more specifically, they detect MOVEMENT! Wearing a camouflage pattern is one thing; it breaks up your outline, but any motion will give you away – even mounting your gun. That’s where a portable deer blind comes in handy! So, no the deer won’t see, but they will hear you.

Let’s move on to smell. Obviously, no cologne, no scented detergent, no smoking, and for god’s sake, never pee near your watch spot:) Smell is the number 1 giveaway when hunting for deer! So you’ve done your scouting, found your game trails, and have an idea of where the deer will come from. Right? Set up your portable hunting blind DOWNWIND from the deer so they don’t laugh at you on their way home. Can deer smell you in a ground blind? Blinds don’t do much to camouflage smell, but they do slow it down a bit. And if you get into your cozy little ground hunting tent and chill a bit, you may just avoid working up a sweat, which also gives off smell!

Now for sound. Fabric will absorb some sound. That doesn’t mean you can have a party in your blind, but a lot of these little things can start to add up.

Turkey Hunting

We are not going to cover all the animals out there; that’s a different post. But I can’t move on without mentioning the elusive turkey. It’s an animal with wicked vision, better than a deer’s – in fact, 8-10 times better than a human’s. Not to mention long-range capabilities and a 270-300° horizontal field of view! You best be covering from head to toe in camo, no shine whatsoever, and try not to blink – or use a ground blind with a 270° field of view like the TideWe FlipGuard 270!

Greatly Improving Comfort When Hunting

Scouting, relaxing or taking a shot is simpler in a see-through ground blind

Put your gun down, relax. Read a book. Do whatever it is you do, the deer can’t see you, and that’s huge! You are concealing yourself and your gear. Now, if you have luck on your side and can position your hunting blind right, you might just cut down the winds a little. It can help make a difference in how cold you feel that day.

Now for my favourite, rain and light snow! Do you want a dry roof above your head or do you want to sit in the cold, in the rain, miserably for hours on end? And do you want to expose that precious and very expensive gun of yours to those same elements? Especially when you can avoid all that with a low-cost TideWe 270 hunting blind?

Ground Blind vs Tree Stand: Why a FlipGuard 270 Hunting Blind May Be Safer

The tree stand certainly has its place. From smell to sight (deer don’t generally have threats from above), you have an advantage. Now add in having a broader view of your prey or perhaps a better shooting angle. The tree stand is quite the invention, and it has its place. But it’s not for everyone! Anyone afraid of heights, afraid to shoot from that high up, and so on, will not like a tree stand. Perhaps you are older or disabled and climbing is not for you. There are many cases where a deer stand is not for you, and even if it used to be your MO, the next best thing is a deer blind.

And yes, I mentioned safety. How many people fell out of a tree stand because they fell asleep and they didn’t have or use the tether to strap in? It happened to my own hunting teacher. Ie, the very guy who taught, tested, and granted me my license. He woke up several hours later with broken bones and a failed hunt that was cut short. Or the stands that fail while you are in it! If you use a stand, take it very seriously!

What’s So Special About TideWe Blinds?

TideWe is a company that makes hunting equipment. From ground blinds, waders, clothing, and heated gear. I don’t know about you, but my hunting gear goes through hell, literally. I’ve bushwacked through stuff so dense I barely got through. And of course I love a $500 big brand camo jacket, but I wouldn’t have the heart to wear it in the bush. No, sir, that’s for going to town! I want a $180 jacket. So when it gets destroyed, I can replace it without crying like a baby. That’s where TideWe comes in with very affordable, functional hunting gear.

So again, what’s so special about a TideWe hunting blind? TideWe’s blinds feature a 270-degree field of view for wide visibility. That’s great for maintaining a broad view and not letting your precious prey creep up on you only to sneak away. TideWe uses quality see-through material; their blinds are pop-up, making setup a breeze, lightweight, and packed with cool features. All at a great price. So let’s look at the model I own and the one I can speak to.

The TideWe VisST 270° See-Through Ground Blind

See-through mesh let’s you check out your surroundings and react quickly

My VisST 270 is a pop-up, ultra-portable blind suitable for a 2-3 person deer hunt. The big selling feature with this model is the silent magnetic door. Entrance is off the back corner, and it literally has magnets embedded in the fabric. I can attest to its silence and versatility. I absolutely LOVE my TideWe see-through blind, which is on sale for $119.99 US. In other words, price-wise, it’s a no-brainer.

Let’s talk about construction a little bit. Everything in life is always about tradeoffs: build it strong and it lasts longer – but at the expense of added weight! Unless, of course, you use insanely strong fabrics like the ones mountain climbers use, but then it’s more like $500 for the same product. No, thank you, and you’ll understand why in a minute. TideWe upgraded the fabric on this model from 150D to 300D. Having worked at a luggage shop, 300D (D meaning denier or thread count) is basic luggage and strong enough to withstand airlines tossing your suitcases across the tarmac. So I’d say it’s plenty strong for a ground blind that sits in the woods from time to time. In Ontario, Canada, for example, the biggest hunt of the year is the deer gun season. But that only lasts for 2 weeks, and who has the time for all 2 weeks? So we’ve got a good grade fabric on a blind that, let’s face it, sees limited use. Its weight is a very manageable 16 lbs, and it won’t break the bank at $119.99!

Let’s also cover access, rifle access to be exact. The VisST270 uses a combination of windows and slits. The front has 3 windows, and by windows I mean one-way, see-through mesh. They open easily by unclipping the top and sliding the fabric down the window rods. The sides primarily use lengthwise seams. Even the back, while solid coloured fabric, has a window that comes down from the top.

Finally, the square foot footprint of this camouflage pattern hunting blind is 58″x58″ with a centre height of 66″. I’m 6’2″ tall and find in/out access easy. I can’t, however, stand up straight.

A new addition for TideWe, let’s compare the upgrade to the VisST270 hunting blind. That’s none other than the FlipGuard 270 see-through hunting blind. It’s also the main event of this post and could very well be the best hunting blind for those seeing optimal viewpoints and comfort!

Disclosure

Before we proceed, let’s get a little disclosure out of the way. TideWe is one of our affiliates, and we choose our affiliates carefully based on the value they provide. While we own the VisST 270, we do not own the FlipGuard. The next section is based on specs provided by our contacts at TideWe, AND based on our experience with the VisST and other TideWe products.

Tariffs

Let’s get this out of the way as well, and here’s the bad news: TideWe is currently not shipping to Canada. I would assume it’s because of the tariffs and trade talks taking place. I’m sorry to our Canadian readers, it may be challenging to get one. The news gets worse: we have several affiliates with the same challenges. Options in Canada have really shrunk, but I will update this post if and when that changes.

Having said all of the above, our American friends can order ANY TideWe products directly from their online store!

Size and Weight

First off, the FlipGuard 270 is a larger ground hunting tent. With a 70″x70″ square foot footprint, the FlipGuard 270 comfortably fits 3-4 hunters. Height is an impressive 75″ or, in other words, 6’2.5″, affording the luxury of standing up for a stretch – even for the giraffes in your camp like myself:) Weight is 26lb.

Let’s do some math. The FlipGuard is 20% longer, 20% wider, and about 14% taller. So how does the weight shoot up by 63%? Well, volume is actually LxWxH, so what seems like marginal increases actually have a multiplying effect. The VisSt is 222,024 cu in while the FlipGuard is 367,500 cu in. Ie, it’s a 65% bigger blind by volume. With the weight increasing by 63%, TideWe actually reduced the size-to-weight ratio. That’s a plus considering the FlipGuard 270 features a double-layer HYDRO-SIGHT™ composite mesh instead of a basic single-layer fabric, showing real investment in material and build quality. It delivers waterproof, wind-resistant protection while still weighing less, making it a smart choice for deer hunters seeking serious performance on a reasonable budget.

Waterproofing and Hunting Blind Fabric

Now for the big one and my favourite part of this durable hunting blind, it’s waterproof! The FlipGuard has a 5000mm waterproof rating for its roof. This panel is seam-sealed and reversible, so the choice is yours to go camo or brandish the safety of hunter orange cover. If not for safety, you’ll at least be able to find your blind if you ever wander off too far. Consider if you had a bad shot and had to track a deer for a fair distance.

So what does 5000mm really mean? Technically, it’s a 5-meter (or 16.4-foot) column of water pushing down before leaking. Practically, in a rain jacket, that means keeping you dry under most conditions. Even through a 1-3 hour downpour. On a tent fly, 1500mm is the minimum, and 5000mm is deemed excellent. TideWe also incorporated a 2-layer mesh they call HYDRO-SIGHT, to keep all that water coming off the roof from coming in on the sides!

Looking for an Affordable Rain Suit?
Watch me get drenched on YouTube as I review the TideWe Rain Suit!

The deer hunt gun season is on right now as I write this in Ontario. Last week it rained a lot, and last weekend it snowed, bringing a mix of rain and snow all the way into mid-week of week two. I can’t stress enough the misery of being drenched on a hunt.

Features

Large windows on the hunting blind make scouting and aiming easier

Unlike the VisST and its side slits, the FlipGuard 270 see-through hunting blind incorporates 3 large rectangular windows. They come down nice and low for greater shooting options. What looks killer to me is the silent window adjustment system. On mine, I need to undo clips and pull the hunting blind windows out of the way, whereas the FlipGuard’s silent sliding windows look that much faster, more convenient, and stealthy. Let me stress that I love my VisSt; the FlipGuard is just the next generation and more advanced, and might just be the best hunting blinds for those who value visibility and ease of use.

Another noteworthy item is what TideWe calls the “big flipping door,” hence the model name FlipGuard. Entry is facilitated by simply flipping an entire wall of the ground blind. This makes getting big gear in and out a breeze. For example, if you bike to your watch or wheelchair, this is huge! The ends use corner zippers, and I can’t speak to how loud that is. For me, I don’t know. I like the small, discrete door of the VisSt. It gives me the ability to sneak in and out quietly without moving a “big flipping door”. But to each his own, there’s a reason TideWe offers 13 different affordable deer blinds of various sizes, price points, and options.

One cool little spec I just can’t skip is brush loops (aka stubble straps and grassing strips). For the really hardcore hunter out there, you even have the option of cutting down some local branches and really blending your ground hunting tent into your surroundings. I thought that was really cool and noteworthy.

TideWe FlipGuard 270 Hunting Blind Price

If you head on over to TideWe right now, you can buy the FlipGuard 270 pop-up hunting blind on sale for $279.99 US. Is that good? Well, let’s do some math again. Take $119.99 for the VisST and add 65% more money in fairness to cover 65% more size. That would hypothetically bring you to $197.98. In other words, $77.99 goes to size, and the other $82.01 goes to waterproofing! Personally, if I’m sitting in it for hours on end, day after day, it’s worth EVERY PENNY to me just to stay dry and warm. Now add a $1,500 gun, a $400 rangefinder, $300 pack, a tourniquet, ammunition, calls, and god knows what other cool gear you’re protecting in the process, and it seems like a sound investment. But above all, and going back to how this post started: Improving your odds of actually shooting that dream big buck of yours, now that’s priceless!

If you’re ready to upgrade your hunting setup, the FlipGuard 270 see-through blind from TideWe is a smart investment. With its durable construction, including fiberglass support rods for stability and an easy-to-use window system, this blind offer everything, you the deer hunter needs. Stay hidden, stay dry, and improve your chances on your next deer hunt with this best hunting blind choice that offers a full 270 degree view for optimal ground blind hunting.

Hope you enjoyed the post, stay tuned for the next one!
