The complete JetBoil Flash Java Kit includes JetBoil accessories like the coffee press, stablizer stand, bowl, fluxring cup, lid and stove
The fast boiling JetBoil Flash Java Kit Includes: FluxRing Cup, Coffee-Style Lid, Bowl, Stove, Stabilizer

Before getting into the nitty gritty of the JetBoil Flash Java Kit review, let’s see what comes in the box. In this Java Kit, you will find the following:

  • Stove
  • FluxRing cooking cup
  • Stabilizer stand
  • Silicone French coffee press
  • Cup (bowl)
  • Lid

What’s not included is the fuel, which is purchased separately.

JetBoil Flash Stove Design and Features

Weighing only 13.1 oz, the portable coffee brewing stove is perfect for backcountry camping, backpacking trips, hunting, camping trips, biking, or traveling in the wilderness. And for caffeine lovers looking to lighten their camp kitchen setup.

The JetBoil Flash Java Kit camping and backpacking stove brewing method comes with an awesome-looking 1-litre FluxRing Flash stove pot (cooking cup), which the coffee press for JetBoil nests perfectly inside, as does the stabilizer stand for your fuel. The protective cup doubles as a measuring cup or bowl, and the lid turns your Flash stove pot into a drinking thermos for your camping coffee. This neat little system helps eliminate the need to carry extra gear and lessens the unnecessary pack weight.

Fuel

When it comes to fuel – the JetBoil cooking system uses an isobutane and propane mix. Starting the stove is done using a convenient push-button igniter that starts the system instantly. The stove itself locks into the JetBoil FluxRing cup, keeping the system secured and stable. The 1-litre Flash stove pot features a colour-changing heat indicator and is scratch-resistant. As a bonus, the smaller 100g JetBoil fuel canister fits nicely inside the cup.

Flash JetBoil Uses

With fast boiling, the JetBoil is not just for the quick morning coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. It’s also there to cure the hunger headache! With the JetBoil, you’ll be eating dehydrated meals, camping meals, and soups in record time.

Sold separately is the JetBoil Pot Support, which can be mounted to gas canisters for outdoor cooking. The camping coffee maker stove is also compatible with accessories like the skillet or pot to help expand your camp cooking options.

Here are a few JetBoil accessories that work perfectly with the JetBoil Flash Java Kit 2.0.

JetBoil Flash Java Kit Ultra-Fast Boil System

Doubting the fast cooking claim, we decided to time the 100 second claim of the Java JetBoil Flash – it did not disappoint! During a few of our off-roading adventures, we timed the boil to 88 seconds. We noticed that timing was dependant on the weather and surrounding environment. The JetBoil Flash is a personal cooking system meant to boil water for one to two people. Considering the fast boil, you could easy boil water for two more and have everyone enjoying a meal together. It’s still faster than boiling a large pot of water over a campfire or the traditional camp stove!

JetBoil recommends no more than 2 cups (16 ounces) of water for an ultra-fast boil. And, of course, we decided to add more water to see what happens. Adding more than 2 cups of water results in the cooking system boiling the water at a reduced rate. It also splatters, which increases the risk of spillover, which is not fun when admiring this impressive boil time. The intense boil vibrated the stove but did not tip it – thankfully, we had the stabilizer stand in place.

What makes the JetBoil Flash boil water at such an impressive speed? Look to the tech found in JetBoil’s 1-liter FluxRing Flash stove pot. The cup’s innovative design distributes heat evenly for faster boiling and ultimate fuel efficiency, which makes this a very cost-effective kit. With decreased fuel consumption, JetBoil minimizes its carbon footprint and makes it a sustainable, eco-friendly solution for those who are looking to reduce their environmental impact.

The FluxRing Cooking Cup is also the heart of the Flash Java Kit. The material used is scratch-resistant, which helps make for easier transportation – you don’t need to worry about damages. While the cup’s innovative design allows for fast boils, it also doubles as a handy thermos. Toss on the coffee-style lid, slip your hand through the easy-to-carry handle on the neoprene cover and you’re good to go. This is the feature I love most!!! Being able to enjoy a hot beverage on the go, without transferring it over to a thermos or coffee mug is ingenious! It keeps the pack load light and there’s less dishes to wash.

When in backcountry, your water supply will most likely come from a river or lake – to avoid getting sick, you must boil the water vigorously. Rule of thumb is to boil the water for up to three extra minutes, depending on elevation.

The Flash stove pot features a thermochromatic color-change heat indicator, which helps verify water readiness. When it’s red, your water is ready and super hot. Be super careful when drinking hot liquids! Cleaning is easy thanks to its non-stick surface, as nobody wants to carry their kitchen sink into the bush.

PRO TIP

If spillage occurs during cooking, the cooking cup absorbs the hot water, which heats the neoprene cover. Be careful when removing the JetBoil FluxRing from the stove. Fortunately, the system cools down quickly.

How To Use the JetBoil Flash Java Kit Cooking System

Below is a short video we put together of the JetBoil Flash Kit in action.

Efficient Coffee Press

Fresh coffee vs instant? I’m not a fan of instant coffee, and you probably aren’t either. You’ll love the fact that the JetBoil Flash Java Kit includes a durable silicon French coffee press. This press filters out any grinds or tea leaves, leaving you with a smooth and flavorful cup of your favourite beverage. Now, that’s something we can all look forward to waking up to! It’s a huge improvemet over traditional cowboy coffee or percolator coffee methods that most of us use at campsites.

The silicon press fits tightly into the cup with a silicone ring for a secure seal. However, we did find that occasionally some coffee grinds made their way through. Based on our findings, the Jetboil Flash Coffee Press needs to be perfectly squared when pushing the press down. If you’re off just a wee bit, you’ll get some grit in your coffee.

Portability of the Jet Boil Java Kit

As mentioned earlier, portability of the JetBoil Flash Coffee Kit is hard to beat. At just 13.1 ounces, it’s incredibly lightweight and easy to carry. And thanks to its compact design, it takes up very little space in your backpack, which makes it a great stove for backpacking and mountaineering, where lighter loads are crucial.

Disassembly is very quick and easy. The JetBoil stabilizer stand folds into a neat little triangle that can nest into the Flash stove pot. There is room in the cup to store the disassembled coffee press and stove. Place the measuring cup onto the bottom of the stove pot and pop the lid onto the top, and you now have a portable, compact system. How convenient is that!

JetBoil Flash Java Kit FAQs

Can You Use an Alternative Pot on a JetBoil Flash?

You can use any pot or pan on the Jet Boil Flash, provided you use the JetBoil Stainless Steel Pot Support, which is purchased separately.

Can the JetBoil Flash Java Kit Be Used to Cook Food?

Yes, use the boiling water for MREs (dehydrated meals). As to cooking, because of the vigorous way it boils water, you need to be extra vigilant when warming up a soup or cooking rice or pasta. The difficulty is in bringing the JetBoil down to a simmer.

Can you adjust the heat on a JetBoil Flash Stove?

The Flash stove does have a flame adjuster, but unfortunately, you cannot set it low enough to provide a simmer.

How much water can the JetBoil Flash Java Kit cooking system boil?

Expect to boil 10 litres of water on a 100 g canister of JetPower fuel.

Can you boil with the lid on Flash Java Kit cooking system?

Some will use the lid to prevent spillage or splatter when boiling. Know that when plastic is heated, it leeches chemicals into your food and also produces off-gases. For these reasons alone, I would avoid using the plastic lid during the heating process.

Is the JetBoil Flash Java Kit good for motorcycle camping?

Yes, as a motorcycle camping stove, the entire system nests, and is compact to fit neatly into a saddlebag or rolling bag.

What’s included in the JetBoil coffee kit?

Inside the kit you’ll find a stove, FluxRing cooking cup, Stabilizer stand, Silicone French coffee press, cup (bowl), and lid.

Fire Bans

Enlightened by the recent forest fires, the entire province of Ontario was under a fire ban. Several municipalities (including ours) are still imposing local fire bans, which poses a serious problem for those camping or in the backcountry who need to boil water for safe consumption or to cook a meal.

Gas stoves are an exception during these fire bans and are permitted for use, which makes a stove like the Java Flash a must if you intend to cook during one of these bans.

You’ll often find fire exceptions for cooking purposes – meaning certain areas (or times of day) are allotted for cooking purposes only, which generally applies to cities and is common knowledge. However, with a fire ban, this exception does NOT apply! Stoves such as the BioLite CampStove, which use wood or pellets, are NOT permitted during a fire ban, making the JetBoil Flash Java kit cooking system more attractive.

Is It Worth Getting a JetBoil Flash Java Kit Cooking System?

Investing in the JetBoil Flash Java Kit is wise if you love the outdoors and appreciate a quick meal or even a fresh cup of your favourite hot beverage. It’s lightweight, takes up very little room in your pack, and is super easy to use. I can say that we are incredibly happy with ours – it’s been our go-to stove for off-roading, day hikes, and backcountry camping.

The JatBoil Flash is more advantageous than traditional brewing methods like pour-over camp coffee or AeroPress camp coffee. It’s faster, more compact, and doesn’t require you to carry disposable paper filters. It also allows you to control the strength of your brew, unlike the campfire method. When you’re done brewing, the ussed coffee grounds can be scattered away from your campsite or dispose of it in a plastic baggie and placed in the trash or take it home.

Alternatives to the JetBoil Flash Java Kit

There’s always an alternative to something – some are great and others not so much. In this case, the JetBoil MiniMo and the JetBoil Zip are worth looking into. Keep in mind that the MiniMo is more for soups and sauces and not really for drinks, while the Zip features an 0.8L cup, boils water slower, has no indicator, but is cheaper than the JetBoil Flash. The Flash Java Kit is still my top choice for it’s size (yes, I drink that much coffee!) and speed.

So, if you’re looking for convenience and comfort of having a reliable stove by your side, along with the ability to brew an excellet cup of joe outdoors, check out the JetBoil Flash Java Kit today. It might just become your new favourite piece of camp kitchen gear you own.
