Caperlan Fishing Backpack Features
Material
Keeping the price in mind, what really stands out is the Caperlan Fishing Backpack’s sleek, lightweight design. It’s made from puncture resistant PVC tarpaulin, which allows the backpack to be flexible and strong.
The 1000-denier fabric is tough enough to handle the rough handling of fishing, and rubbing up against dense brush on a day hike to one of my favourite spots. Surprisingly, the Caperlan bag held up with no tears or punctures!
Waterproof Build
Of course, the waterproofing has to be one of my favourite features. Can’t say that I have met anybody who enjoys getting their gear wet! Whether you’re caught in a downpour or wading through shallow waters, it’s reassuring to know your gear stays dry. Decathlon’s Caperlan fishing backpack is made with waterproof tarpaulin fabric and features coated zippers to keep moisture out.
However, after being caught in a sudden rain while fishing, I did notice a few droplets inside the pack, which came through the top of the zipper’s seam. This is likely why Decathlon doesn’t recommend submerging the pack fully. But if you’re wading in up to 5 inches (15 cm) of water, your gear stays safe and dry.
For this price, you won’t find many fully submersible backpacks, and unless you’re planning to fish in deep waters with your pack floating beside you, there’s no need to spend a fortune on one. The Caperlan gives you just the right amount of waterproofing for most fishing adventures.
Capacity & Fishing Gear Organization
The 20L Caperlan fishing backpack has plenty of room for your fishing essentials. It fits everything you need for a fulfilling day on the water.
Just how much does the Caperlan fishing bag hold?
I’ve managed to fit two large tackle trays (or one large and a few smaller ones), fishing pliers, gloves, extra fishing line, license, phone, snacks, and more. Honestly, I didn’t think it would all fit, but the pack looks bigger than it is.
The main compartment is spacious, with a deep inside zippered pocket for personal items or for boating maps that you want to keep dry. Large tackle boxes do not fit inside, only trays. On the outside of the tackle backpack, you’ll find two expandable mesh pockets perfect for a water bottle or quick-access gear, like a small lure box. The front zippered pocket is ideal for smaller items like spare lures, gloves, or even a snack when you need a break.
Comfort & Fitment
Fishing with the Caperlan is comfy. Whether you’re fishing from the bank or trekking to a remote spot, the padded shoulder straps and breathable back panel make it comfortable to wear for long periods. The fishing dry backpack sits nicely on my back, and I appreciate the adjustable shoulder and chest straps that allow for a customized fit.
The padded sections on the back help wick away sweat, ensuring you stay cool even during hot hikes or long fishing days.
Extra Features
The Caperlan fishing bag was designed by professional anglers, so it’s loaded with features that make fishing more convenient.
Case in point, there are two side hooks for carrying extra fishing rods, a rear loop for your fishing net, a pliers pocket, and a hook on the strap for your most used fishing accessory. The shoulder straps also have loops to hold smaller accessories like a whistle, multi-tool, or lanyard. I recommend adding some clips to these for quick access. The zipper pulls feature large loops for easier opening and closure.
You can find more details on Decathlon’s website, but rest assured, these thoughtful additions are a testament to the design’s focus on practical fishing needs. Nothing worse than trying to rummage through your pack while fishing in a river or on the riverbank without a spot to put your pack down.
Caperlan Fishing Backpack Performance
The Caperlan backpack left me impressed during my recent fishing trips. From sunny days to light rain, my fishing gear, phone, and lunch stayed dry. I’ve used it as a grab-and-go for fishing off different boats, and my kids have used it on riverbanks and for hikes to remote fishing spots. Surprisingly, it doesn’t leave you feeling sweaty or weighed down.
Accessing gear was easy thanks to the large zipper on the front, which made bait retrieval quick. The pliers hooked on the strap came in handy when I needed them in a pinch. The extra rod holders let me target different species or lend a rod to my friend, who apparently doesn’t like to bring their own things.
And yes, we even used it for ice fishing! And I must admit, it handles winter easily.
Canoeing
Did you know that the Decathlon fishing backpack is also suitable for short canoe paddles? Being 20L, it fits neatly in the bow of my canoe, offering enough waterproof protection for exploring nearby islands. It’s light, durable, and easy to grab when you need it, which makes it ideal for those paddling excursions.
Who Is It For?
The Caperlan Fishing Backpack is perfect for anyone looking for an affordable solution to keeping their gear dry. If you love offshore fishing, river fishing, or need waterproof storage on a boat, this waterproof backpack is for you.
It’s also perfect for short canoeing trips, ice fishing, or day hikes. While it might not have the capacity for long fishing adventures, it’s the perfect size for short excursions and day trips.

Caperlan Fishing Backpack Comparison
In the same price range, the Caperlan 20L offers more compartments for fishing gear organization, has the ability to add the Caperlan chest pack, and features additional loops on the shoulder straps for access to small accessories.
Comparatively, the Plano Z-Series Waterproof Backpack comes with two tackle trays and a roll-top design. The Simms DryCreek Z Sling is a similar size but costs a lot more, offering fewer features and being fully submersible.

This is a great looking backpack and looks like it is really durable! It’s ice fishing season in my little hometown off the water so I’ll have to keep this in mind when I bartend at our local water hole and share with all our fishers! Thanks!
Thanks so much for the kind words! I’m really loving this pack — it definitely makes life easier out on the ice, and it keeps everything nice and dry from the snow! Hope you have a blast bartending and sharing the love with the local anglers. Enjoy what’s left of the season!
We wilderness hike in the BWCA, so am always looking for exceptional gear for outdoor hiking and day packs! Great incite!
Absolutely love the BWCA! It’s such a stunning place to explore. For those shorter hikes, this pack is solid, but not the best for long treks where you need to carry more gear. Thanks for your comment!
Thank you for a full review. We love hiking, but our backpack is very small, so we need a new one. And my brother loves summer and winter fishing, and I`m looking for a birthday gift for him right now.
Very cool! Nice review 😎
Thank you! 😊 I appreciate your comment.
