Compared to YETI, Rugged Road is the new kid in town and they’re already shaking things up. Earlier this year, their Rugged Road 115 won the ‘Cooler Product of the Year’ award. It takes a lot to win one of these awards, especially when you’re up against behemoths like YETI.
So, What’s So Special About the RR115?
Durability and the fact that it’s ultralight for its size. I know, I keep mentioning lightweight, but it’s half the weight of the YETI Tundra 110, at 41.2 lbs, compared to a mere 22 lbs of the RR115. Not only that, the Tundra holds 150 cans with no ice, while the 115 holds 115 cans with ice!
This is enough to convince anyone who has the pleasure of offloading horrendously heavy coolers and then dragging them to their final resting spot. What sold us on getting the RR45 is the fact that Rugged Roads coolers are blast-proof!!! Not that we are going to take fireworks to it, which, by the way, Rugged Road already did! Just knowing that we can stand on it, throw it in the lake, on a boat, use it as a table or ottoman, take it hunting, etc., without worrying about breakage. We’ll leave the heavy-duty testing to the boys!
Rugged Road 25
Getting back to the Rugged Road 25. With a bit of a background to the 115 and 45, you can expect the same kind of durability in the RR25. Best of all, you can save your muscles for your adventure and not hauling hefty coolers around.
The RR25 weighs 5 lbs and holds 20 lbs of ice or 25 cans at 12 oz. each. It also retains ice for up to 7 days. Wouldn’t you be happy to have ice retention for this long, especially on a camping trip?
Titan Shell
Let’s talk about the Titan Shell, made from a Rigorite™ coating. What this means is that it can pretty much withstand anything. From impacts to fireworks, you name it – the RR25 can handle it. Heck, you can even throw a Jeep on it or an ATV like my hubby did with our RR45. Yes, curiosity gets the best of us sometimes!
The Rugged Road 25 does not come in a smooth finish but a rough one, which is ideal for handling when wet or if you use the lid as a cutting board. Speaking of lids, the multi-functional lid is reversible with cup holders and a cutting board.
RR25 Flotation
If it wasn’t cool enough to have a cooler withstand a blast, then perhaps the fact that it floats should do it. Remember when you were floating in the lake with your friends or family and an urge for a cold one crept up? You send one person to get drinks, and they’re back half an hour later because they need a snack or have to check their phone. Now, you can bring your floaty and cooler, and no one has to ever leave the water again!

Thanks for the honest review of the Rugged Road cooler. Looks like this would be ideal for our rafting trips – lightweight and floats!
You’re quite welcome. I agree – life is so much easier when you don’t have to lug something so heavy, especially when it comes to paddling!
I wish I’d had this cooler when I went camping with friends a few years ago. The main advantage for me is the fact that it’s a lightweight option, as coolers are always so heavy that it’s hard to carry them around. Thanks for the review of this great product.
You and me both!! You’re right, when it comes to camping, hiding a heavy cooler from wildlife is such a chore. Rather save the energy for fun activities! Thank you for your comment!!
